Anthony Cafritz is SAW’s founder and Executive Director. As such, he is intimately involved in the development of all residency programs and works daily in the summer to ensure artists have the means to create exciting new work. He also maintains close ties to the Salem community, which provides important support for SAW’s artists and programs. In 2008-09, he served as President of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. Anthony received a BA from Bennington College (1985) and his MFA from SUNY Purchase (1990). Despite his busy schedule at SAW, Anthony maintains a varied and productive life in the arts. He creates and exhibits his work, most recently at galleries in Salem, Schenectady,Troy, and Albany, NY, and in North Adams, MA and North Carolina. He has a long history teaching—as Assistant Professor at Williams College, Castleton State College, and Union College, and most recently at University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
